Greetings. I’m Jason, a man with many interests and a passion for technology and exploration. I’ve been a technology professional since 1998, when I began working at Lucent Technologies in Westminster, Colorado. My interest in technology and engineering dates back to my childhood, where I’m told one of my first sentences was, “how that work?” My job at Lucent, later Avaya, blossomed into a 15 year career, ultimately as a software engineer in services research and development. I’ve since moved on to another company, still in telecommunications, writing software and applying technology to support and improve the way business is done.
I am a fan and enthusiast of the open source movement. I started programming as a hobby during junior high school. My first experience with GNU/Linux, as a teenager, involved setting up a 10Base2 network with various services on Red Hat and Slackware on 386 and 486 PCs. Today, at home, I mostly run derivatives of Debian, RHEL, and FreeBSD, as workstations and servers on both physical and virtual hardware (ESXi). While I have experience in many languages on many platforms, my primary interests are in Java and C on UNIX-like operating systems, supplemented by shell script and other languages like Python.
Nature, sustainability, and conservation are other interests of mine. I grew up in Denver, but recently moved with my family to a home on 10 acres in a rural community just outside of Denver. In the near future I’m hoping to explore aquaponic gardening and grey water reuse, and application of various technologies to support sustainability and self-sufficiency.
I created this site to share my knowledge, experience, and work with others who have similar interests.
